BMW Series 8 Cabrio: luxury in the open air

The BMW Series 8 Cabrio embraces the dynamism typical of the brand, combined with a design full of class and all kinds of luxury features.

The commitment of BMW within such a demanding and non-conformist sector as luxury is reinforced with the arrival of the new BMW Series 8 Cabrio. Its style, dynamism, exclusivity and excitement will be a great incentive for everyone interested.

At launch, it will initially be offered with two engine variants.

Following the presentation of the second variant of the model, we have been able to highlight its dynamic style and the comfort, sensations and enjoyment this luxurious model delivers.

Thanks to its extremely quiet retractable hard top, up to 4 passengers can enjoy a beautiful day while savouring the comfort offered by the new model.

Its design has been especially carefully crafted, both inside and out. Both enjoy a great harmony that achieves an outstanding balance. From the sophisticated design of the roof compartment, to the subtle domes and a surface that blends with the dashboard and door shoulders, we are faced with a vehicle that breathes luxury in every centimetre.

More than a beautiful car

Its clear sporting character is especially evident in its dynamic qualities and the technology of the propulsion system, as well as its chassis and frame structure.

It features a well-balanced weight distribution and benefits from a lightweight construction using aluminium, magnesium and CFRP. As for its aerodynamics, these are optimised by an almost zero lift coefficient.

The adaptive M Suspension, integral active steering and tyres of different sizes as standard are some of the highlights we find from the outset.

It will feature the M Sport differential (with electronic slip control) as standard on the rear axle, present on the BMW M850i xDrive Cabrio and optional on the BMW 840d xDrive Cabrio. Active stabilisation can be found on the BMW M850i xDrive Cabrio.

The option of choosing the M Sport package will also be available for the BMW 840d xDrive Cabrio, featuring specific design and equipment that will give the model an even greater sense of sportiness than it already has as standard. The 20″ alloy wheels or a specific braking system are among the most notable changes in this specification.

Designed to be enjoyed from both inside and out

As for the interior, comfort has been the most carefully studied aspect by the brand, successfully seeking the perfect balance between sportiness, luxury and comfort.

We find a lower, more sporty driving position. The seats come with electric adjustment, memory and Vernasca leather upholstery as standard on the 840d xDrive Cabrio.

To ensure greater comfort, certain features such as a wind deflector fitted as standard behind the rear seats or the neck heating integrated into the headrests will enhance the experience in this respect.

The technology integrated into this model could not be left behind, which is why we find a wide range of driver assistance systems and interesting additions to make our driving a more pleasant experience.

Among the most interesting systems, highlights include: high beam assistants, Driving Assistant with collision warning and pedestrian warning, city braking function, lane change and lane departure warnings, real-time information on signs, traffic or speed limits, active cruise control with Stop&Go function, among others.

As standard it will feature the already highly successful Head-Up Display of the latest generation and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, which includes a navigation system and fully digital instrumentation, all visible on a 10.25-inch high-definition screen.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, designed to behave like a useful digital co-pilot, will be available and operates on voice commands. This way you won’t have to take your eyes off the road.

As we mentioned earlier, the model is expected to reach the market in March 2019, initially with 2 engine options available, which we detail below.

The price of the BMW Series 8 Cabrio for Spain

As expected, the price difference between the fixed-roof version and the retractable-roof version is around 9,000 euros more for Cabrio versions.

Thus, the price of the BMW M850i xDrive petrol is set at 149,200 euros, while for the diesel option such as the BMW 840d xDrive the price is 121,400 euros.
