BMW would produce its supercar successor to the M1
BMW is reportedly planning a successor to the M1, possibly replacing the electric models. The new sports car would arrive in 2016.

How things change in terms of model planning when the winds of the economic crisis shift a brand’s plans back and forth. The successor to the much-loved BMW M1 from the 1970s had been cancelled in December of last year (I repeat, last year) so that the company could focus on its new electric sub-brand i.
But now that the i models face considerable danger, it is good news that the M division is returning to the drawing board to sketch the first lines of a possible successor to the M1, which would arrive in four years’ time. They could not have given us a more hopeful rumour today.
This M1 successor would reportedly debut in 2016 according to Auto Bild, which has carried out the first investigations into BMW. The M division is keeping its secrets well guarded, but it is known that the brand’s next investments will be directed toward a sports car, although it may draw on the electric experience of the i8, so the new M1 successor could also be a hybrid.
Finally, the German publication has also discussed engine options that could be likely for the next M1: a turbocharged V8 producing 600 to 650 CV, at a price that could reach 250,000 euros.
