BMW X3 M and X4 M: this is what the new sporty SUVs will look like
BMW unveils the prototypes of the X3 M and X4 M. Both will receive a new six-cylinder inline engine with up to 454 CV of power.
This weekend, during the Nurburgring test of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), BMW unveiled the prototypes of the X3 M and X4 M, two concepts that preview the look of the future production versions. Both sporty SUVs have received a more aggressive front bumper, with three larger air intakes, as well as more aerodynamic wing mirrors, lightweight alloy wheels and a braking system with blue-coloured calipers.
An even sportier look

At the rear of the crossovers we find even more changes compared with the current versions. Both include a new modified rear bumper, a sporty exhaust system with four tailpipes and a newly designed spoiler.
Inline six-cylinder twin-turbo engine with 454 CV?

BMW has not yet given many details about the technical specifications of these models, but it has confirmed that both crossovers will feature a “new inline six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and strong acceleration”. The Bavarian manufacturer did not wish to give further details about this powertrain, but earlier reports suggest that the SUVs will incorporate a 3.0 six-cylinder engine with up to 454 CV of power.
Improved chassis: the best driving dynamics in the segment

Among the performance upgrades, a new active M rear differential and a sportier suspension will also be included. BMW assures that both crossovers will offer an “unmatched” level of agility, dynamism and precision through corners.

We do not yet know when the production versions of the X3 M and X4 M will reach the market. According to the president of BMW M, Frank van Meel, “the BMW X3 M and X4 M will become a benchmark for their segment when it comes to driving dynamics”.
