BMW and Zagato have joined forces to showcase at Villa d’Este this BMW Z4 bearing the unmistakable signature of the Italian coachbuilder.

BMW could not break with tradition of presenting something interesting for this Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, and this year it has unveiled the BMW Zagato Coupe Concept, a concept born from yet another stroke of genius by Zagato, presented in person by the head of design of the German brand, Adrian Van Hooydonk.

Unlike the vast majority of concepts, the BMW by Zagato was created with the premise that it could be used on the streets every day, while also meeting the strictest safety standards. The exercise aims to improve the model it is based on, the BMW Z4.

There is no doubt that this German car has taken on an Italian character in a remarkable way. Among the Zagato touches worth mentioning is the double-bubble roof, which gives the model greater rigidity than a conventional roof, the same technical and stylistic solution used on the Aston Martin Vantage Zagato V12.

The abrupt tail was a must for a Zagato creation, so this BMW features a rear end that aids aerodynamics and will appeal to fans of more traditional sports cars. The aesthetic is completed by the Rosso Vivace colour, developed exclusively for this BMW; the wide range of tones and shades it displays depending on the light falling on the bodywork.

Other details that immediately catch the eye are the distinctive grille and the very generous air intakes at the front, generous wheel arches (with a curvature that is another hallmark of Zagato). The ensemble is completed by the rear air diffuser, a chromed twin exhaust outlet and 19-inch alloy wheels with a design that does not stand out too much.

As for whether this model will go into production or not, or about the engine options, BMW has not revealed much, but don’t be surprised to see this Zagato sold in limited series in the future.
