Camaro Convertible launch confirmed

Camaro lovers will be able to see the convertible version of the muscle car in showrooms starting in the third quarter of 2011.
The launch was confirmed by a General Motors spokesperson in an interview with Automotive News. Terry Rhadigan said the unit, known since last year thanks to a few spy photos, is scheduled to begin its production in March 2011.
He also acknowledged that the launch has been delayed due to the economic adjustments the company must make, as it was originally expected to hit the market during 2010.
Another setback that cast doubt on the car’s production was the likely cessation of operations announced last week by the supplier of the convertible’s roof mechanism. However, as you can imagine, the company in question is still in business and has signed a new agreement with GM.
Unfortunately, the high-performance version called Z28 seems unlikely to ever reach production, as it would require $50 million to develop, and it will also be very difficult to meet the new CAFE standards.
