Companies created to produce electric vehicles do not always end up succeeding. But sometimes one of them is lucky and manages to close a good contract with a powerful company or a public institution that guarantees its survival. Canoo is a company of this kind that has secured two important contracts: one to deliver thousands of its vehicles and another for the United States Army to test it.

For the moment, it is the American retail giant, Walmart, that has wanted to acquire 4,500 electric vehicles signed by the start-up. These units will be used to deliver online purchases. With this operation, Walmart has sought to get ahead of its most direct rival, Amazon, and deprive it of the chance to acquire this practical electric vehicle.

The agreement with Walmart also includes the additional purchase of another 5,500 units, in exchange for company shares worth 20% of the company’s initial valuation. In this way, they secure significant capital and ensure the launch of the company and its models.

Another condition is that Canoo must not carry out any operation with Amazon. In addition to this purchase, Walmart is awaiting an order of 5,000 units from GM. The large American company has purchased the EV600 and EV410 models, which will also be used for online order deliveries.

The United States Army will also receive one unit of this model. This does not mean it will place an order for several units, but rather that it will join the test fleet of electric vehicles. The army will evaluate this vehicle and, based on the results, will be able to decide whether it is interested in having this type of vehicle for overseas missions or as a vehicle for internal use.

This is not the first electric vehicle being tested by the army, so it is possible that an electric model will soon be in service in various army missions, as a support or transport vehicle.

Features of the Canoo Lifestyle Delivery Vehicle

This model, the brand’s flagship, comes with three battery versions, of 40, 60 and 80 kWh. In the case of the highest-capacity version, it offers a range of 420 kilometres on the NEDC cycle. The starting price of the model begins at 49,950 dollars for the version with the highest capacity and range.
