Car sales in Europe increased compared to 2009

Jato Dynamics published the latest sales data for last January in Europe; car sales recorded an increase of 14.9%, partly thanks to certain sales-boosting schemes that are still being applied in some countries such as Spain, France, Great Britain and Italy. Curiously (well, not really), in Germany, where the government incentive no longer applies, its sales fell by 4% compared with January of last year.

The make and model still leading the way is the Volkswagen Golf, with just over 41,000 units sold, closely followed by the Ford Fiesta, which sold just over 38,000 vehicles.

In the individual brand data, Volkswagen takes first place, difficult to dislodge for Renault and Ford. The French brand is the second best-selling brand, with fewer than 100,000 units counted in January.

The European country that sold the most cars was Germany, although, as I explained earlier, its percentage has dropped compared with the previous year, ending at 181,000 vehicles. France follows with around 172,000 cars sold. Spain sits in the middle positions with exactly 74.108 new cars sold.
