As part of the sudden restructuring plan that General Motors wants to carry out at Opel, after taking control of it to the surprise of many, the until now president of the German company and head of the US group’s European operations, Carl-Peter Forster, will step down from his post shortly. However, the person who will take over from him has not yet been determined, so Forster will continue to work at the brand during the transition of leadership.

To find the new CEO of Opel, General Motors will work with the brand’s management and with the European Works Council to ensure that the new plan that will guarantee the future of Opel and Vauxhall is implemented correctly. Fritz Henderson, CEO and chairman of General Motors, has stated that the German manufacturer has made very significant progress thanks to Forster and wished him “the best for the future”.

Henderson added that further details on how the coming months look for Opel and Vauxhall will be communicated next week, and that he will arrange meetings with shareholders to work together. Finally, he confirmed that Forster’s replacement will be the only change made to the management of Opel, and that the rest of the positions will remain as they are now.

Forster has acknowledged that it has been a great honour to be an essential part of the brand’s history, since under his leadership some of the best products have come to market, as well as many advances in design, technology and quality. We will be keeping an eye on the candidates to succeed him as CEO of Opel.
