Electric Cars Concepts Pick-up SUV
Changan CD701, a prototype SUV that converts into a pick-up
A crossover that turns into a “pick-up” when needed is a vehicle that may not be very common, although this prototype is interesting.

Chinese brands are working to offer the best alternatives to current vehicles, focusing on functionality. They are launching novelties that surprise for several reasons, with fairly original solutions in terms of batteries, range and, above all, price. But Changan, the company behind the Avatr brand, which we discussed a few days ago, has presented a prototype that combines the SUV concept with that of the pick-up.
Another of the brands the company operates is Qiyuan, and its proposal is an SUV with an attractive design, but one that can be converted into a comfortable and practical pick-up. The front keeps proportions and an image very similar to any SUV, with an attractive and dynamic design. But it is at the rear where it stands out and surprises.

This model features a roof that folds backwards, and it has a very special characteristic. Because the rear part of it can slide forward, freeing up the boot area, much like a pick-up. The storage space is similar to that offered by a mid-size pick-up if the rear seats are folded down.

According to the data and images provided by the brand, the vehicle is capable of carrying a surfboard and even can be turned into a camping vehicle, thanks to a tent that attaches to the rear. Inside we find quite attractive equipment, with a rather minimalist look.
The instrumentation uses a Head Up Display to provide the information needed for driving. A screen of considerable size dominates the dashboard. The prototype features light-coloured upholstery to emphasise its leisure-oriented character.
No further information is available about the concept model, although it is known that the SDA platform for the brand’s electric vehicles has been used. Although it is a prototype, it has been revealed that it could enter production during 2024, so we won’t have to wait long to learn more details about the model.
