Change of address: this is how you must notify the DGT

Have you changed your address? The Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) requires you to notify it within 15 days.

Numero Dgt 060

The Directorate-General for Traffic, also known by its acronym, DGT, has published on its official Twitter profile information highlighting the importance of notifying a change of address. This procedure must be completed within a period of fifteen days once you have moved. In this way, Traffic will be able to keep sending you notifications and/or communications.

If you do not carry out this procedure, you will not be aware if you are notified of a fine, and you could even miss the deadline for voluntary payment of such fines. In addition, failing to notify a change of address may mean that you do not receive any vehicle inspection recall notices, and you may even be subject to a financial penalty of up to 200 euros.

How to notify a change of address to the DGT?

Notifying a change of address to the Directorate-General for Traffic can be done in several ways. The simplest is to do it from home, either through the website and the cl@ve system or electronic certificate, or through the General Access Point of the Administration. For this option you will need your electronic national identity card (DNI) or digital certificate. However, you can also change your address with the Social Security, the National Police and even the Tax Agency.

Another way to notify a change of address is to go to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters or to some City Councils. There are many options available to notify a change of address, and the DGT also allows it to be done by phone at 060 and through the new miDGT app. In the mobile app it is very simple: you just have to go to settings, personal data, and change the address. See how easy it is, and you can save yourself more than one headache!

Now, the Directorate-General for Traffic also allows notification by email. To sign up for the service you will need to access Electronic Road Address (Dirección Electrónica Vial) and fill in the requested details. In this way, the DGT will send you everything by email, whether it concerns fines, vehicle inspection recalls or other types of communications.
