Chrysler gives new life to its SRT division

Although SRT never officially stopped operating, the division that develops some models for Chrysler and Dodge in the USA now has fresh momentum thanks to some changes in the personnel who run the destinies of the Italian-American company.

From now on, Ralph Gilles, who until now has been president of the Dodge brand, will take charge of the SRT division, which is certainly food for thought. Gilles was able to lift the image of Dodge in recent times, and the prospects opening up for SRT in terms of new models raise plenty of questions about whether this is a convenient move for the brand that Marchionne leads.

The future of Chrysler will include things as varied as the SRT division, the Alfa brand, together with Mopar, Ram, Jeep and, of course, Fiat. Such diversity seems to go against what others are doing: keeping fewer satellite brands than before in order to gain a bit more liquidity.

Instead, Marchionne keeps adding names to Chrysler’s roster, which will have to find ways to keep surviving and to face the upcoming North American CAFE emissions and fuel economy standards, which are getting ever more demanding.
