Chrysler puts an end to the Dodge Dakota pick-up

There is nothing particularly noteworthy about the Dodge Dakota, other than the fact that it is a mid-size North American pick-up, the first of its size to feature a V8 engine, and that this year it was 24 years on the market. Chrysler has decided to end production of this vehicle, which sold only 13,000 units over the past year.
Apparently, the workers who assembled the Dakota have been laid off, although Chrysler says that they will be reassigned to other jobs within the same company, before the workers’ union begins to put pressure on the group led by Marchionne. But the late Dakota may well make way for a new model from Chrysler.
This model would be built on the Dakota’s platform and would go on sale under the Ram brand, which currently offers the impressive 1500 pick-up. It will be the most affordable solution for Chrysler, as it does not require much investment in development and design, while adding one more vehicle to the Ram lineup.
