Confirmed! Subaru will present a BRZ STI next week

We have been dreaming about the Subaru BRZ STi for a long time, practically since the standard version hit the market, but even more so when the Japanese brand presented the Subaru STI Performance Concept at the 2015 New York Motor Show: a prototype of the radical sports coupé that left no one indifferent. Two years later, it seems that Subaru is finally going to present the long-awaited BRZ STI.

The Japanese carmaker has published a teaser image showing the rear spoiler of a Subaru BRZ with the STI badge (the brand’s high-performance division). The post was shared on Twitter and Instagram, and its caption reads: “Stay tuned… 6/8/17”. So we won’t have to wait long – until June 8 – to get a full look at the Subaru BRZ STI.

It is still too early to anticipate the changes and improvements the radical version of the sports coupé will bring; however, everything suggests it will incorporate a series of design elements that will enhance its visual aggressiveness, as well as improved aerodynamics.

In addition to changes to its chassis and design, the Subaru BRZ STI could receive a slight power increase over the standard model, which uses a two-litre boxer engine producing 200 CV. It is worth recalling that the Subaru BRZ STI Performance Concept featured the same turbocharged two-litre engine producing 300 CV as the competition variant, the BRZ GT300; although we doubt the new BRZ STI will offer such a large jump in power over the standard BRZ.

On the other hand, the Japanese brand has not confirmed that this model’s engine will be turbocharged – one of the most distinctive hallmarks of the brand’s sporting division – so, just like the model it is based on, it could be naturally aspirated.
