Continues the discount war on electric cars in China

Following the application of a price reduction on several models of Tesla, the company XPENG has decided to lower its prices in the Chinese market.

China has long been the testing ground where all the major moves brands make in the automotive market are tried out. This is only natural, since it is the largest market and the place where trends take shape. Just a few days ago, it was precisely in China that the prices of the Tesla models were first cut. Following this reduction, the price cut spread to other markets, and prices also fell in Europe.

So it can be said that in the Asian country a trade war has begun to see who can cut the prices of their electric cars the most. After the American manufacturer, it is now the brand XPENG that is offering its customers a lower price on its most popular electric models.

The company has issued a statement announcing that it will apply a price reduction of between 20,000 and 36,000 yuan. This amounts to roughly 10% off the selling price of the P7, P5 and G3i models. Specifically, the price of the XPENG P7 has dropped by 12.5%.

The discounts will apply starting this week and, anticipating complaints from those who bought their car at the prices before the discount, the brand has offered an extension of its maintenance services as compensation.

This move is a response to the 7.43% discount applied to the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. That discount spread to other markets, and XPENG did not want to be left behind. It sets the stage for a scenario in which, we can be sure, other electric car manufacturers will soon offer price reductions to counter the moves of these two major brands.

The question is whether this will happen only in China or whether discounts on the selling price of electric cars will also be applied by other brands, extending this price war to every market in the world. The ones who will benefit most from this, of course, will be the potential buyers of one of these vehicles.
