Could the Opel Manta return and the GT be reborn?

The new CEO of Opel has shared his personal impression regarding the return of the Opel Manta or an adaptation of the Opel GT to its 1968 classic model.

Can a rumor be glimpsed within a passing remark made during a report? Possibly yes, considering that Opel is not going through the golden eras of the 1970s and 1980s, and that the brand’s new CEO, Karl-Friedrich Stracke, wants to reverse that and get off to a strong start at the German brand.

However, the task will not be easy. With the recession that has already been forecast for Europe in 2012, launching new models becomes something close to impossible. And the most optimistic person within Opel is its own CEO, who told Auto Motor und Sport:

I can imagine a car like the Manta, but with new technology and a new design. I can also imagine a suitable Opel GT that recalls our 1968 classic model.

GM does not currently have a similar platform to supply Opel (even though Opel is technically better equipped for it), unless Daewoo produces a base for a new Opel GT, or Opel has the resurrection of the Manta up its sleeve, which is not very likely, to be honest.

Finally, both are two vehicles that left a very deep mark in our country. Do you think the Opel GT should return to its roots, or that the Opel Manta should come back? Which of these two historic models would you like to see return?
