CUPRA DarkRebel, the brand's futuristic vision of sportiness
CUPRA presents its DarkRebel prototype, a spectacular shooting brake that fans of the brand will be able to modify and influence in the final design

CUPRA has celebrated in grand style the arrival of a new member to the family, the Tavascan, a sporty, fully electric SUV that also arrives at the best moment for the brand after five years of success, breaking its own targets and records month after month. But at that presentation CUPRA also took the opportunity to make another important announcement, though it perhaps went somewhat unnoticed: the CUPRA DarkRebel.
In the words of CUPRA’s CEO, Wayne Griffiths, “After five years building the CUPRA brand in today’s world, it is time to think about the next step. Our next dream. The CUPRA DarkRebel is the definitive interpretation of our vision”. This is how the DarkRebel is presented to the public, as a carrier of the brand’s DNA in its fullest expression and without limits, as the brand itself puts it, “to show that design is a dialogue, not a process”.

The CUPRA DarkRebel may remain merely a design exercise, a showcase of what a brand like CUPRA can do in terms of design, but if the brand’s future models are inspired by this concept, we need that future to arrive as quickly as possible, because it is undeniably spectacular. A shooting brake-style body, sharp and very defined lines, an aggressive and sporty character, whichever way you look at it. Please, CUPRA, give us more of this.

The DarkRebel features a very radical front end, supported by a large bonnet that includes a one-piece design running from the brand’s characteristic triangular light signature to the fully aerodynamic lower section, divided into two clearly differentiated zones. These lines evolve from the bonnet at the top up to the glazed area, with a certain resemblance to a fighter jet’s cockpit, then soften across the roof and finish at a rear that features a large spoiler and very abrupt yet eye-catching lines, such as the large rear diffuser.

Its interior is clearly inspired by the world of competition, with front seats where the driver is the protagonist once seated in the bucket progressive seats, with barely any physical controls or buttons, fully technological, and a steering wheel inspired by video games. Meanwhile, the passenger would simply have to sit back and enjoy the ride in this sports vehicle.

But wait, because with the CUPRA DarkRebel comes the Hyper Configurator, which the brand describes as a virtual laboratory where users can interact in different virtual environments and experiment by creating colours, materials and finishes never seen before, thus creating their own versions of the DarkRebel influencing and inspiring the brand for the final design of a physical model to be presented later.

Users can modify attributes such as colours, graphics and effects, ending with a video they can share of their unique DarkRebel, choosing between three different environments:
- Exponential Square: in this environment you can experiment with raw textures and earthy colours inspired by natural elements.
- Exponential Cube: if you are a fan of the world of competition, this is your environment. You can experiment with the digital neon aesthetic through glow, algorithmic movements, parametric geometries and fluorescent lights.
- ∞ Exponential: the highest level of exponentiality, to enter an environment where the restrictions of the physical world do not exist. According to the brand, this environment and the customisation options offered are dominated by an ethereal feeling.
