Dacia previews what its next electric car will be: you're going to be surprised by the choice

Dacia wants to move forward in the electric car market and therefore wants to launch a new model with these characteristics, which will be based on the Sandero.

The electric car market is not living up to what was expected of it. There are many cars of this kind, but many models are aimed at buyers with a certain level of purchasing power. It is important for the market to offer models designed for buyers who do not have as much financial capacity. We have seen more affordable models arrive, but more Asian brands are involved in these segments than European ones.

To improve this, there are European brands that want to enter the market for affordable electric cars. And if we talk about affordable European cars, we have to think of Dacia. The Romanian manufacturer is involved in this area and already launched the Dacia Spring a few years ago, which was renewed in 2024.

But this model is not enough, and from the offices of Dacia they have already announced the launch of a new electric model that will complement the brand’s offering in this segment. This new electric model will arrive in early 2027, so work on developing the car has already begun.

The surprise has come because it will not be a completely new model. To shape this new electric model, the idea is to create a new version of the well-known and popular Dacia Sandero. Given the presence of affordable electric cars within the Renault Group, such as the Renault 5, it is expected that this one’s platform will be the basis on which this new electric version of the Sandero is built.

This could mean that the electric Sandero will be somewhat larger than the Spring and could offer several battery versions. One of them could be the entry-level version of the Renault 5, with a 40 kWh capacity, which would allow a range of 300 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. The motor would have a power output of 95 CV.

These are only assumptions based on expectations and taking into account what the Renault 5 offers. In any case, the Sandero will not be limited to an electric version, but will also have other variants. The Sandero will also have a hybrid version, which could be cheaper than the electric one and will also be very attractive. For now, two years remain before the electric Sandero arrives, so we will have to wait for more details about the model to be revealed.
