Daimler and Renault are on the verge of reaching an agreement for the new Forfour

The Smart Forfour will return to the market in the not-too-distant future. The first generation appeared in 2004 as the result of a collaboration agreement with Mitsubishi, since the Forfour shared many components with the Colt, such as the chassis and the suspension. However, it was not very successful and was discontinued in 2006.
The manufacturing costs of a new Forfour are very high, and for that reason, Daimler was looking for a partner for the development. That partner is Renault, which is interested in the project, and in addition to the new Forfour, a sister model will be launched for the French brand.
The reason for bringing the Forfour back to the market, according to Dieter Zetsche (Chairman of Daimler):
The decision to reintroduce a new four-seat version of Smart is based on the belief that customers, due to increasingly strict environmental regulations and the rising cost of petrol, are increasingly demanding compact vehicles.
