Dodge Challenger SRT8 surprises on the dyno

Thankfully, this time you won’t be watching a fine muscle car destroying its engine; quite the opposite. It’s a SRT8 into which Dodge has poured all its effort, and it shows just what it’s capable of in terms of power.

The people behind this little test, of course, were the guys from Inside Line, who chose as their ideal candidate none other than the Dodge Challenger SRT8 2011, a vehicle whose manufacturer claims a power output of 470 horsepower at the crank, and which gave a big surprise on the dyno.

According to the measurements, the power at the wheels was 420 horsepower, which represents a loss of around 12%. That is hard to believe for a vehicle like the Challenger, which, given its construction, should lose somewhere around 20-25%. So, doing a fairly simple calculation, we are talking about a unit whose final power exceeded 500 horsepower at the crank.

A pleasant surprise, especially for enthusiasts of this type of vehicle, and one that places the Dodge on a level with rivals such as the Mustang and the Camaro.
