An enviable design that will make you turn your head

One brief glance at the new DS3 Crossback is all it takes to realise we are looking at a premium compact SUV. With a length of 4.12 m, large wheels (690 mm – 18″) and its ground clearance, this model manages to catch the eye.

At the front we find the emblematic DS WINGS grille, vertical “pearl” LED daytime running lights and DS MATRIX LED VISION optics that project modernity and performance from every part of its large horizontal, ribbed bonnet.

Attention to detail is one of the hallmarks of the DS brand, and this model is no exception. That is why we find some exclusive additions:

• Hidden window guides,
• Elegant retractable door handles,
• Pure roofline with no visible antenna,
• Roof and bodywork in different colours,
• Side spoiler in the shape of a shark fin,
• Chrome double exhaust pipe.

At the rear its elegance stands out, thanks to the rear lights that extend across the full width with the CROSSBACK signature.

Wide customisation options

Starting with the exterior, the list of customisable options is truly extensive. We have available 10 wheel designs, 10 body colours, as well as 3 roof colours.

Within this range of customisations, five inspirations stand out, namely: MONTMARTRE, DS BASTILLE, DS PERFORMANCE Line, DS RIVOLI, DS OPERA and the limited launch edition La Première. Each inspiration is unique both inside and out.

The interior is defined by elegance and high-quality materials. You will find grained leathers or full Nappa in “Art Leather” finish, braided fabric, Alcantara, or a steering wheel made entirely of leather that includes the airbag cover.

Attention to detail is present both outside and inside. You will find all kinds of features that add exclusivity to the design.

One of the most striking details of its interior is its centre console. Elegant and high-end, it houses the gear selector, switches and electric parking brake control, and meets the daily needs of its occupants with a place to put down and charge your phone, cup holders and a large, practical sliding armrest.

Sensational comfort

The new DS 3 CROSSBACK offers a level of comfort that feels like a higher-end car. The seats inside the vehicle are enveloping and feature an innovative treatment of two-density foams, further enhancing their high quality.

Acoustics is one of the fundamental aspects on which the engineers worked tirelessly. The vehicle’s soundproofing has been taken to the extreme. This can be seen in the use of thicker metal for the door panels, a specially designed air outlet area, and thicker glass with an acoustic windscreen.

As for its audio system, FOCAL, together with the DS team, has developed the ELECTRA system, which comes equipped with 12 speakers with a power output of 515 W. The sound is crisp, clear and true to life.

Use of the latest technologies

DS3 CROSSBACK E-TENSE, 100% electric

The E-Tense is presented as a high-performance electric vehicle that will be available in the second half of 2019. Its range will exceed 300 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. It will also feature fast charging, capable of charging 80% of the battery in 30 minutes.

Of course, habitability, comfort, dynamism and quietness will be hallmarks of this new model.

It will feature an electric motor of 100 kW (136 CV), a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery and a deceleration and braking energy recovery system. It supports charging at up to 100 kW.

The brand has stated that up to 20% of energy is regenerated through braking in the city. As for its figures, it accelerates from 0 to 100 in 8.7 seconds and has a torque of 260 Nm.

Other engine options

The DS3 Crossback is also available with combustion engines. Specifically, we have a PureTech petrol engine of 155 CV, which comes with an 8-speed EAT8 automatic gearbox.

This last engine is designed for performance and enjoyment, but we also have two other good options of 130 and 100 CV respectively, which complete the petrol offering under the new Euro 6.3 regulations.

Two Euro 6.2 BlueHDi diesel engines of 130 and 100 CV will also be available from launch.

Interesting innovations

The new DS3 Crossback comes with a wide package of innovations; however, today we will talk about the most interesting ones.

Its new “full LED” headlights are equipped with Matrix Beam technology. Thanks to it, the driver can keep the high beams permanently on without dazzling the other vehicles approaching. Something absolutely useful and that we are delighted to see, as it clearly increases the level of safety on the road as well as visibility.

The DS DRIVE ASSIST system is another major addition in this new model. Thanks to it, we can enjoy a more relaxed drive and, despite offering Level 2 autonomous driving, it is a good step towards getting closer every day to the 100% autonomous car.

This system helps the car adapt to traffic conditions: thanks to its sensors it detects the lane to automatically follow its path and adjust its speed, as well as maintain the safe following distance.

Finally, the DS3 Crossback will feature an app that offers useful options such as being able to start the vehicle from the smartphone, lend it to someone else without them needing the keys, etc. This function is called DS SMART ACCESS and will be available from the day of launch.

Top-level safety

DS3 Crossback offers state-of-the-art add-ons for its safety system. The Active Safety Brake, or automatic emergency braking, detects dangerous situations and brakes the car if the driver has not done so beforehand. This system will be very useful in typical moments of distraction that can occur, for example, in a traffic jam.

In addition, this system detects pedestrians, cyclists or cars, which widens the recognition range and offers a safer prediction.

Various components such as its doors, thanks to their thickness, or its 8 airbags help outstandingly in this area.

As for active safety, innovations such as lane-keeping assistance, real-time notifications, speed adaptation thanks to sign recognition, and GPS location are some of the options found in this new model.
