Econav, the only Spanish technology nominated for the 2010 European Union Sustainable Energy Award

Econav is a technology developed by the Spanish company Crambo, based in Madrid, which is applied to a GPS or a mobile device and helps optimise a vehicle’s consumption by plotting the most suitable route for the characteristics of each car. What stands out about Econav is that it is the only company competing for the 2010 European Union Sustainable Energy Award.

In total, 272 projects are competing for this coveted prize, of which only one belongs to a company based in Spain. Data like this must be indicative of the low investment in R&D by our government, our country and our companies. It is a serious matter that must be addressed with absolute firmness: the money allocated to research has to increase.

Our colleague Javi Vicente already analysed the Vexia Econav navigator some time ago, showing the advantages this device offers: in an ordinary car it can save up to €500 a year and one tonne of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, truly spectacular figures.

The Pilot Project for Implementing Econav Technology across the fleet of vehicles of a business organisation has earned it the nomination for the 2010 Sustainable Energy Award. It achieved reductions of more than 20% in CO2 emissions and savings of nearly 3,000 litres of fuel. In this way, with a simple GPS updated with Econav technology and without large investments, cars were made greener. From HighMotor we congratulate Crambo on the nomination and on its innovation in the service of the environment.
