Volkswagen will officially unveil the second generation of its Touareg at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, and it will go on sale starting in April of this year. Among the new features, the new dimensions stand out: it now measures 4.80 metres in length, while being exactly 2 centimetres lower than the previous model, with a width of 1.93 metres that remains unchanged.

Its exterior design is aimed at making the new Touareg a much more elegant SUV. This is reflected both in the front, with its distinctive headlights, and at the rear, where the unmistakable night-design lights stand out.

As for the interior, the high quality of the materials stands out, along with the ease of use of the controls. It features a touchscreen of up to around 8 inches that adds functions such as three-dimensional map display, a 40 GB hard drive and a DVD player. In addition, the system can be complemented with Bluetooth and a Dynaudio sound system. The new Touareg also offers the advantages of a large MPV, since with the rear seats folded down it reaches a boot capacity of 1,642 litres, and 580 litres with the seats in their normal position.

The new Volkswagen Touareg can be fitted with up to four different engines: one petrol, two TDI diesels and even a hybrid version. The petrol is a 3.6-litre FSI V6 with a maximum output of 280 CV and 360 Nm of torque; its combined consumption is 9.9 l/100 km, with CO2 emissions of 236 g/km. Among the diesel engines, the entry-level version of the range is a 3.0 V6 TDI with 240 CV and maximum torque of 550 Nm, as well as a consumption of just 7.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 195 g/km. The other diesel engine is a 4.2 V8 TDI with 800 Nm of torque and 340 CV of power. Its average consumption will be 9.1 l/100 km, with CO2 emissions of 239 g/km.

The final engine option is the Touareg Hybrid, which combines a hybrid system with the powerful 3.0 V6 TSI engine producing 333 CV, which together with the hybrid motor deliver a total output of 380 CV and 580 Nm of torque. The electric motor allows emission-free driving up to 50 km/h, which reduces combined consumption to 8.2 l/100 km, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 240 km/h. All engines will be paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Among the optional equipment, the ACC adaptive cruise control stands out, which includes automatic braking, adaptive Bi-Xenon lighting and the Pre-Crash system, which tightens the seat belts in the event of an imminent collision.
