Eight-car pileup at the Nürburgring

Yesterday was quite an eventful Sunday at the Nürburgring, as no fewer than eight vehicles, among them the famous Ring Taxi, crashed in a section of the track that was under repair.

Apparently, it all started when four of the cars arrived at the same time at the stretch known as Bergwerk, where part of the track was being repaired. A single hard braking was enough to set off a whole series of chain-reaction crashes between them. A couple of seconds later the remaining four cars arrived and could do nothing to avoid the other vehicles blocking the track.

The accident left one person who had to be taken to the circuit’s medical centre and who is in serious condition. The damage to the circuit and the repairs the vehicles will need are estimated at more than 100,000 euros.

According to some of the “drivers”, the works area was poorly marked, which could lead those involved to file claims against the circuit management or the construction company. I believe this accident will bring more news, which we will announce over the coming days, since apparently it was not the only accident of the day.
