Elon Musk admits problems with the manufacturing of the Tesla Model Y

Thanks to the leak of an internal document signed by Elon Musk himself and addressed to the entire workforce of Tesla, we know of the concern the company’s top executive has about the manufacturing of the Tesla Model Y.

In the email, whose subject line reads “Model Y Manufacturing”, there was a message that has been published by our colleagues at Electrek.co. It contains the letter in which Musk describes the restart of Tesla Model Y production as a challenge.

It is worth recalling that the start of production of the electric MPV was halted by the Covid-19 pandemic, which put both the Fremont plant and Tesla and the state of California itself in jeopardy. The controversy even raised the prospect of the brand fleeing to another state, such as Texas, had production on the assembly lines not resumed.

Be that as it may, regarding Musk’s email to workers, the delay in the construction and marketing plans for the Tesla Model Y within the expected timeframes now poses a challenge that calls for the commitment of everyone.

So much so that, as the letter says, Elon Musk himself will be “personally walking” along the GA4 assembly lines at the plant, and the epistle ends with a sentence that encourages anyone who may need him to let him know.

Tesla’s priority right now is the manufacturing of the Tesla Model Y, with a construction capacity of up to 3,500 units per week. Delays in deliveries could lead to significant setbacks, and, as the text also notes, “production of the S, X and 3 is going relatively well,” but the challenge now centres on the new model to be built.
