Fastned expands its presence in Spain with new ultra-rapid charging points in the province of Barcelona
Fastned is another of the major operators of charging stations for electric vehicles, with ambitious plans to extend its network across Spain in the coming years.
For those who are not familiar with it, Fastned is a company specialising in the construction and operation of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles. Founded in 2012 in the Netherlands, the company has stood out for its focus on providing high-quality, accessible charging infrastructure to support the transition to electric mobility.
Precisely as a result of this strategy, Fastned announced its expansion into the Spanish market in January 2024, when it stated its intention to build its first fast-charging station near the Spanish capital. However, construction of that station has not yet begun, as shown on the company’s own website.

Fastned’s plans for the Spanish market do not stop there, however. According to news we have just learned, the company is expanding its presence in Spain with the opening of two new ultra-rapid charging stations. The agreement reached by Fastned with the motorway operator Abertis will allow the construction of these two stations, with a total of 16 charging points between them. According to the company, each of them will offer power of up to 400 kW. These two stations will be located at the Garraf Nord and Garraf Süd service areas, in the province of Barcelona.
Will I be able to use these new charging stations on my journeys?
For those who are not sure of the exact location, these two service stations are in the municipalities of Vilanova i la Geltrú and Cubelles, southwest of Barcelona. Fastned already indicates on its website that both stations are currently “under construction“.
Fastned currently has a total of nine locations marked as “planned“ in Spain, six of which are around Madrid. Four of them appear to be located at motorway service areas, grouped in pairs so as to cover both directions of traffic. The remaining two locations are, one northeast of the city of Barcelona, and the other near Murcia.

Fastned says that its presence in Spain is based on the goal of offering Spanish drivers fast and reliable charging services, thereby transforming the driving experience of electric vehicles.
