Volvo stops accepting EX30 reservations in the United States

Given the buzz surrounding it, the Volvo EX30 was on track to become one of the best-selling electric models in the US market this same year as well.

Following the delay of the launch in the United States of the brand’s new compact electric SUV just under a month ago, the Swedish manufacturer has stopped accepting online reservations for the EX30. From now on, and for an indefinite period, American customers can only opt to join a mailing list to receive updated additional information.

Volvo’s initial plans involved producing the EX30 for the American market in China. However, because the federal government decided to sharply increase import tariffs on electric vehicles made in China from 25 to 100 percent, Volvo’s management decided the best option was to import this model from Belgium. This is why the EX30 will not finally arrive in the United States at the end of this year, as originally planned, and customers will have to wait until 2025.

Despite this decision, Volvo has inexplicably continued accepting reservations in the United States until now. This makes no sense, since the company cannot confirm a specific date on which all these customers holding a reservation will be able to receive their new vehicle. It must also be taken into account that the waiting time, in many cases, could even exceed a year. This would end up causing criticism and discontent among customers.

To prevent this from happening, the “Reserve” button that until now appeared on the Volvo website for the United States has been replaced by a “Keep me informed” button. Nevertheless, according to American media, it should still be possible to reserve this model through a dealership, although this has not been confirmed.

Will Volvo keep the EX30 selling price it promised?

Volvo has not yet revealed, for the moment, whether the transfer of EX30 production to the Belgian plant will, on the other hand, affect this model’s price list. The Swedish manufacturer initially announced a selling price for the EX30 in the United States starting at 34,950 dollars, rising to 46,600 dollars for the top-of-the-range version excluding optional equipment packages.

With an estimated EPA range of up to 275 miles -426 km-, and considering the high sales volume this compact SUV is achieving in other markets such as Europe, Volvo was confident the EX30 could soon become the best-selling electric vehicle worldwide. Something that, at least for now, does not seem likely to happen.
