Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Sets New World Record at Auction

Two years ago, we saw an example of this beautiful Italian classic as part of a private collection, and now one unit from 1957 is making headlines, as it was recently sold for $12.1 million.
Until now, no car had reached such a figure at auction, and according to network reports, the bidding by RM Auctions in association with Sotheby’s in Maranello was intense.
The Testa Rossa carries serial number 0714TR on its chassis, confirming that it is one of the 22 examples produced between 1957 and 1958. Moreover, the historical value of these sports cars is impressive, as they won 10 of the 19 international races held up to 1961.
The auctioned classic took part in the 1000 Kilometres of Buenos Aires held in 1958, finishing fourth, and was later sold to an American enthusiast who frequently competed in SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) events.
A notable detail is the car’s exterior, which does not feature the characteristic color suggested by its Italian name, Testa Rossa (red head); for this reason it is considered one of the special relics of the Italian marque, alongside the 1984 Spyder model created specially as a gift for Gianni Agnelli.
