Fiat USA begins selling accessories and modifications for the 500

Fiat USA will begin offering a customization and accessories catalogue for the Fiat 500, which will soon also include modifications to the mechanical side.

Fiat is set to take advantage of the impressive aftermarket parts and modifications market in the United States, with the upcoming opening of the Fiat Custom Shop, where customers will be able to buy their Fiat 500 at any Fiat dealership with many more customization options added.

According to the CEO of Fiat in the US, the Custom Shop will allow accessories to be added that, in addition to offering a car personalized to each buyer’s taste, will also include its accessories within the warranties the brand offers in the US, as well as financing for the vehicle itself. The car will be built normally at the Fiat plant, but sent to the customization workshops for the final changes.

The list of options will be quite varied, with a significant number of accessories. Among roughly 60 items, customers will be able to order their new Fiat with graphics, roof bars, aerodynamic kits, as well as high-performance air filters or special exhaust systems that will arrive in the future.

Fiat has also mentioned that Mopar will not take part in the process of fitting parts or taking orders, even though it belongs to the same Fiat group, as the Fiat Custom Shop will have a completely independent operation.

Perhaps one of the biggest drawbacks is that customers will have to wait almost two months for their future customized 500 to be ready, although given the considerable level of acceptance the model has enjoyed in the US, this does not seem to be a major setback. Those who want more can always turn to Abarth, although the 2012 model is sold out in those parts and the 2013 is about to arrive, along with its catalogue.
