First images of the GT version of the Kia EV5 revealed
The first published images of the GT version of the Kia EV5 have given us a look at the appearance of this compact SUV, which has a somewhat more radical spirit than the standard version
As is usually the case, it was once again the publication of some images by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as part of the pre-homologation procedure for a new vehicle, that has allowed us to confirm that a GT version of the Kia EV5 will be available shortly. At least in the Chinese market.
The photos published by the MIIT on the agency’s website are also accompanied by a draft sheet with some preliminary technical specifications. According to what can be read, the new Kia EV5 GT will be available with an electric motor on the front axle producing slightly more than 150 kW. The motor on the rear axle, meanwhile, will be far more modest, with just 72 kW of power.

At 416 centimetres long, 185 wide and 171 tall, the new EV5 GT will clearly have more compact dimensions than the same version of its bigger brother, the EV6. The weight on the scales, in this case, will come in at 2,230 kilograms. That is a more than considerable figure for a vehicle in its segment. The wheelbase, for its part, will be 275 centimetres. That is, about 15 centimetres less than on the Kia EV6 GT.
In Europe we are still waiting for this compact SUV to arrive
The Kia EV5 was officially presented for the Chinese market last October, coinciding with the EV Day held on that date by the South Korean manufacturer. Since then, nothing has been heard about its possible launch in other markets such as Europe or North America.
We cannot finish without pointing out that the EV5 GT will also sit clearly below its brother the EV6 when it comes to its architecture, which will be 400V, compared with the 800V of all the other electric models from the South Korean manufacturer based on the same E-GMP platform.

Finally, it is worth noting that Kia promised almost a year ago that we would also see a GT version of the EV9. A promise that now seems set to be fulfilled at the start of next year. As always, we will be keeping an eye out to see whether this really is the case, and when it happens we will tell you about it here at HighMotor as usual.
