For sale: a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 EVO II

Imagine being able to buy a Mercedes C-Class identical to the one competing in the German DTM, but homologated for public roads. It sounds impossible, yet that was exactly the case in the early 1990s with the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 EVO II, a car taken from the racetrack and homologated through the production of 500 units with specifications for road use. Something of this calibre can only appreciate over time, so the price this example is listed at comes as no surprise.
The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 EVO II celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and earlier in the year a unit went on sale: number 473, with 18,000 kilometres, for €149,500. That figure was high but justified for a vehicle with this historical and representative weight from a period of motorsport, along with its low mileage. This time, however, the price rises to €700,000 for a 190E 2.5-16 EVO II first registered on 30 May 1990.

Setting the price aside, this unit is number 146 and is in excellent, fully original condition, retaining all the components that made this model so special, such as the adjustable front splitter, the adjustable spoiler, the widened wheel arches, the 17-inch wheels and the oval exhaust outlet. The 2.5-litre engine produces 231 CV and has covered 128,000, while the seller claims it still revs vigorously up to its 7,700 rpm limit, and the braking system remains original, with four-piston front brake calipers.
As for the price, for $700,000, roughly €615,000, it could be yours. It is true that this amount does not match the specifications and prestige of this vehicle, even though its condition is almost perfect. We will see in the coming days whether someone offers that disproportionate sum or whether the seller is forced to lower the price. Don’t miss the image gallery.
