Ford Tourneo Custom by Tinkervan: adventure on wheels
Tinkervan transforms the Ford Tourneo Custom into a living space, turning a vehicle built for adventure on wheels into a home.
Ford remains linked to the sport of cycling, through the Ruta Imperial Memorial Alberto León, a race in the mountain bike circuit held every year in San Lorenzo del Escorial. To learn more about the event, and about the vehicle that Ford has partnered with for this year’s race, the Tourneo Custom camperised by Tinkervan, we attended an intense day of sport organised by the oval brand.

The guest ambassador was José Antonio Hermida, whose record includes, among other titles, four world championships in mountain biking, a silver medal in this discipline at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and three European championships. The day took place on the same trails where a large number of cyclists took part in this new edition of the Ruta Imperial. As part of its collaboration with the event, Ford also displayed a Tourneo Custom camperised by Tinkervan in the start and finish area.
A Ford Tourneo converted into a home on wheels
Although the Ford Tourneo now uses the 2-litre EcoBlue engine, the base vehicle for the Tourneo Custom by Tinkervan conversion is the Ford Tourneo Custom in its 2.2 turbodiesel version producing 125 CV, equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive. An engine powerful enough to move, with great enjoyment and very low consumption, a vehicle whose best features are on the inside.

Among the modifications the Ford Tourneo receives in its camperisation, one of the highlights is the pneumatically raised pop-top roof, which features quick-release fasteners and integrated safety bolts. It allows the installation of a 2 x 1.30 metre bed, with an aluminium base. It also has three windows fitted with insect screens, as well as an LED reading light.
It is not the only “room” in the Tourneo Custom Camper. The three seats in the second row can also be converted into a bed, in this case measuring 1.90 x 1.45 metres, with a lower drawer that can be accessed. The electrical equipment includes an auxiliary 100 Ah battery, 12-volt power outlets, a power inverter with a socket for plugging in 220-volt devices, and lights integrated into the upholstery with adjustable brightness. The package is completed with a stationary heater – diesel-powered – with digital timer, as well as the option of adding a 41-litre fridge (550 euros), an external Thule awning (650 euros) or a tailgate-mounted bike rack for three bikes (450 euros).

The Tourneo Custom Camper is available with short and long wheelbase bodywork (4.97 and 5.34 metres overall length respectively), the latter being ideal for those who want extra luggage space behind the third row of seats. Optional equipment includes technology found in the latest Ford cars: SYNC multimedia system, lane keeping assist, automatic high beam, rear-view camera and driver fatigue detection.
Customers can choose from three interior trims, Espacio, Comfort or Camper, and five configurations depending on whether they select a raising roof, a bed seat, a flexible seating system with a bed, or a combination of both. The recommended retail price of the Ford Custom by Tinkervan, which can be purchased through the Ford dealer network, starts from 27,200 euros, excluding taxes.
