Ford will halt production of the B-Max in Romania due to weak demand

B-Max

Sales figures for the Ford B-Max are not performing as well as the American brand’s people had hoped across Europe, so this month and next the production line for the model in Romania will be shut down.

The scheduled shutdowns will take place for one week in September and for 13 days next month, while waiting for vehicle demand in Europe to pick up, according to the brand’s spokesperson. In addition, during November and December “volumes will be adjusted.”

According to the data available on the model, almost 45,000 units have been sold in Europe from January to July this year, making it the brand’s fourth best-selling model. However, it seems that what was expected of the B-Max is still far from ideal.

The production halt for the model in Romania will mean that 2,500 workers will receive only 80% of their salaries. The Romanian plant, which was owned by the now-defunct Automobile Craiova until 2008, produces 370 vehicles a day and about 1,000 engines daily.
