Ford will launch an electric SUV with a range of 500 km before 2020

Ford is going to launch a new fully electric SUV with a range of almost 500 kilometres. In 2016, the company presented three new crossovers in Europe, and by 2020 it plans to launch five new SUVs, among them the zero-emission model.
Ford considers the new generations a major source of SUV segment consumption. The mindset of the so-called millennials is driven by a strong tendency to share goods and services. At Ford they state that 1 in every 4 millennials interested in buying a new car considers the option of buying an SUV.

25% of millennials planning to buy a car choose an SUV. The outlook of the millennial generation is driven by a strong social awareness and a inclination to rent, lend and share goods and services. This way of thinking is changing the way vehicle manufacturers do business.
“Sales of SUVs are growing faster than those of any other type of vehicle in Europe, and millennials are a major driver of this demand. Last year, SUV sales at Ford even exceeded the growth levels of the sector,” says Roelant de Waard, Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford Europe.
In 2016, SUV segment sales in Europe rose 21% compared with 2015, reaching more than a quarter of the total market share. For its part, Ford increased the number of SUVs registered by 31% thanks to the EcoSport (compact), Kuga (mid-size) and Edge (large) models.
