The Japanese brand’s mid-size saloon debuts a new generation that has just been unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, and which improves in several areas to stay among the leaders of the segment. Its exterior design stands out, with a very distinctive front end and a more elegant rear that give it a different personality from previous Avensis models.

However, its interior suffers from lines that are too sober and classic, making it look less modern than it really is, although it features materials of fairly good quality, such as the graphite used on the centre console.

In the engine range, the petrol versions incorporate Valvematic technology, which delivers better performance and consumption figures, and the available variants will be:

  • 1.8i 16v with 145 CV
  • 2.0i 16v with 150 CV
  • 2.0 D4D with 130 CV
  • 2.2 D4D with 150 CV
  • 2.2 D4D with 180 CV

The standard equipment is another area in the model’s favour, as it is very generous. To complement it, other items will be available, such as high-intensity headlights, a new VSC+ stability control system, headlight washers, a navigation system, a USB port, adaptive cruise control (ACC), a pre-collision system (PCS), AFS directional headlights, lane departure warning (LKA), dual-zone air conditioning, or a fixed panoramic roof for the estate version.

The new Avensis will be built at Toyota’s Burnaston plant in the United Kingdom. The launch date and prices have not yet been confirmed.
