Geely KC Concept Debuts at the Shanghai Motor Show

There’s no denying that Chinese brands have come a long way since Western consumers dismissed them. Often accused of taking a European or American design and copying it without the slightest shame, brands like Geely now have their own luxury designs to offer, such as the KC Concept.

If you haven’t noticed yet, let me tell you: the KC Concept is similar to the Volvo S80, on whose platform this luxury saloon concept has been designed. It will be shown at the Shanghai Motor Show, which is opening its doors these very hours. This is no coincidence (nor, this time, a sneaky copy of the original), but rather the work of Peter Horbury, who was once head of Volvo’s design department and now works as a designer at Geely.

The KC Concept would feature a hybrid powertrain, but nothing is known about it so far. The interior is very well executed, with a highly stylised, modernist dashboard and a touchscreen integrated into the centre console. While details on the KC Concept are scarce, it is Geely’s attempt to also be recognised as a luxury brand and to be able to compete head-to-head with Western models. From what we can see, they have done their homework.

But this won’t be the only concept Geely presents in Shanghai, as they are preparing a real invasion of the show, with 23 models on display. In addition, they are preparing to present their own 6-speed automatic gearboxes and a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, designed and manufactured in-house.
