General Motors sells Saab to Spyker

Pending the official press release from General Motors, we can already report that the American company will sell Saab to the handcrafted sports car maker Spyker. As a result of this agreement, the new company Saab Spyker Automobiles is born, and it will take the Swedish brand forward.
For now, details of the deal are scarce, but according to Autoblog, the agreement has been reached after paying 50 million euros in cash, 230 million in preferred shares, plus a 400 million credit guaranteed by the Swedish government. And one of General Motors’ main problems was with the chairman of Spyker’s board, the Russian banker Vladimir Antonov, who reportedly has resigned to make this agreement viable.
In a short time we will have more details from the official press release, but it is undoubtedly a good day to celebrate, and fortunately Saab has escaped the fatal fate of its sister brands Pontiac and Saturn. It is curious to see how a manufacturer with 200 employees like Spyker will take charge of a brand with as much history as Saab and 3,000 employees, and let us hope that they appreciate the brand’s potential and its pending projects, something at which GM has not been particularly thorough.
