Good news for our industry. Volkswagen will produce one more model in Navarre

Yesterday this great news for the Spanish industry was made official. The German brand Volkswagen will bring a second model to the production line of the Navarre factory, Landaben. This plant had never before produced two different models at the same time. It currently produces the Volkswagen Polo.

The model that will join production in Navarre belongs precisely to the Polo range. It is a segment B SUV derived directly from it, so it will be the smallest SUV in the brand’s line-up. Since it shares the platform, it will not entail excessive costs for adapting the assembly lines.

This situation will create a large number of jobs, although the figure is still unknownProduction of the new vehicle is scheduled to start in 2018, although there is not yet an exact date regarding which month or approximate part of the year it will begin. The arrival of this second model at the Landaben plant will generate a high number of direct jobs at the factory, guaranteeing the continuity of a good part of the current workforce.

In addition to direct hiring, we must take into account the new indirect jobs, especially in the areas near the plant, since the production of a vehicle creates external jobs related to logistics and the supply of materials.

Since the Navarre plant began producing the Volkswagen Polo, having assembled the last four generations of the model, more than seven million units have rolled off its lines.

In recent years, the number of units produced has been far greater than at its beginnings. To give an idea, in 2015 the factory produced no fewer than 298,358 Volkswagen Polo. Of those nearly 300,000 units, 91% were exported around the world, reaching dealerships in some 60 different countries.
