Google and FCA Fiat Chrysler join forces to produce the first commercial autonomous car

The major car manufacturers are looking for ways to make cars that drive themselves and do not have to depend on a person to get from one place to another. On the other hand, there are other kinds of companies pursuing the same goal. For example, Google.
So we shouldn’t be surprised to see alliances between both segments, automotive and technology, to make this dream a reality. So Google and FCA Fiat Chrysler have signed an alliance to start working more seriously toward finally bringing a car that can move autonomously. This first autonomous vehicle will be called Chrysler Pacifica.
This MPV will not be fully autonomous, although it will serve to establish the first steps of this business partnership to create the first car that can be driven autonomously that is real and accessible to everyone. What awaits us with this very special model, which will arrive from 2017 onward?

An alliance of two major companies to advance autonomous driving
We don’t yet know what this family car will bring us, although they have announced that it will be the foundation on which the strategic alliance of both companies will be built to create a fleet of autonomous vehicles that uses the proposals of the automotive group and Google’s technology, which has spent years testing its technology in its well-known autonomous car.
Apparently, Google has faced the possibility of signing a similar agreement with other manufacturers on several occasions, but issues have arisen that worried the brands it contacted. One of them is ownership of the data generated by the onboard systems. Privacy is important to everyone, and they don’t want to leave anything exposed on this matter.
For FCA Fiat Chrysler this problem does not seem insurmountable, and they have chosen to work hand in hand with Google. Will this be the beginning of an approach to a fully autonomous and safe car to travel our roads? Time will tell.
