Google will introduce a new driving assistant and update Android Auto this summer
Google’s driving assistant will be one of the new features that the tech giant will roll out on its devices this summer.

Google used a recent developer conference to present its new products and updated technologies. In the automotive sector, Google’s next-generation Assistant will feature a completely new driving mode. In addition, it will allow users to control their smartphone through the hands-free system.
The new Google driving assistant is expected to arrive during the summer of this year. The new driving mode will start automatically when connected to the vehicle’s Bluetooth system. Alternatively, it can be started by saying “Hey Google, we’re driving.”

Once the Google driving assistant is started, users will be taken to a panel showing activities such as navigation, messaging, calls and other media. The selections are personalized for each user, and navigation suggestions will be offered based on the user’s usual routine or on appointments scheduled in their calendar. For example, if you make a restaurant reservation, the new Google Assistant will show you directions and possible alternatives to get to the appointment.
The new Google driving mode will also display your most frequent contacts, recent navigation searches and recommendations. Importantly, users will be able to resume a podcast they started listening to on another device.

Google Driving Mode
Google’s driving mode is not the only new feature for infotainment systems. The vehicle’s remote controls have also been optimized. As a result, users can execute several commands by voice alone.
For example, users can say “Hey Google, turn on the car’s air conditioning to 20 degrees.” This command would start the request and set the climate control system to 20 degrees.
Importantly, the improved Android Auto system will begin working in existing vehicles that use the Blue Link of Hyundai system and the Mercedes-Benz Me Connect technology.

Google updates Android Auto
In addition, the Google driving assistant is not the only new feature the Silicon Valley tech giant has presented during the conference. It has made public an updated version of Android Auto. The new system will be rolled out to all models compatible with Android Auto over the course of this summer.
The Google system for vehicles will feature a new interface that has simplified the controls and shows “more useful information at a glance.”
Among the updates is a new navigation bar that will allow users to access apps and view turn-by-turn directions on the same screen. Google has also equipped its system with a new notification center that shows the latest calls, messages and even alerts.

Other design updates have also been made. Fonts are now easier to read. It will have a dark theme that, as Google has assured, is “easier on the eyes.” Android Auto has also been updated to work better on larger infotainment systems and will use the extra space to display more information such as ongoing calls or the address of the next destination.
