Hints about Mercedes's engines in 2015

2015 is the year chosen to launch a new batch of diesel and petrol engines. The plans have already been approved, according to information that an internal source at the German brand has passed on to CAR, and among them the four-cylinder engines, the low-displacement V8s and the return to the straight-six layout deserve special mention.

The new four-cylinder range will be used in the entry-level versions, while the V8s will reduce their displacement to 4 litres and will be paired with one or two turbos. Don’t worry about the power of the latter: remember that Audi currently uses a similar setup and delivers up to 520 CV in the S8.

The most curious thing is the return to straight-six engines, who would have imagined that Mercedes would banish the V6s in both diesel and petrol versions? In any case, this is nothing new for the German house, since until just a few years ago it was straight-six engines that powered some of its largest saloons (for example, the Mercedes-Benz E 320 CDI W211 with 204 CV). Of course, they will rely on the help (double in some cases) of turbocharging.
