Honda e: is the Honda electric car expensive at 34,800 euros?

Honda has already revealed the prices of its first electric car, the Honda e. And to find out whether it is an expensive car, it has to be compared with other electric cars already on sale in our market.

After learning the details of the final version of the Honda e that will reach dealerships, the Japanese brand has revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show the date the first electric car will reach the market and, more importantly, its price.

The entry-level version of the Honda e range, with the 100 kW (136 CV) motor, costs 34,800 euros. The most powerful version, with 113 kW (154 CV), is paired with a higher-spec trim with more equipment called Advance, and the price rises to 37,800 euros. With a 35.5 kWh battery, the range is put at 220 km. For now, the standard equipment of each version has not been specified, nor the options.

Those interested in the charming Honda city car can now go to the brand’s dealerships to place their order, and the first deliveries of the Honda e to customers will begin next summer.

Let us recall that the Honda e, together with the new Volkswagen ID.3, which was also presented in Frankfurt, are two of the electric cars that have generated the most interest in recent months, accumulating up to 40,000 reservations or requests for purchase information since they first appeared as prototypes.

Which electric cars can I buy for 35,000 euros?

At first glance, it is clear that, without purchase subsidies, the Honda e looks like an expensive car. But if we put it in context and compare it with other electric cars of similar concept, the picture changes.

For example, among electric cars developed from the outset as such, not an electrified version of a car also offered with combustion engines, we have the BMW i3, on sale from 39,900 euros. A more rational purchase, considering interior space and range, would be the Nissan Leaf, available from 35,000 euros. The Renault ZOE, for example, costs 32,000 euros in its Life 40 R90 version.

Another electric city car that seeks to stand out through design, style and equipment, the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, costs 38,300 euros. And perhaps one of the most direct rivals of the Honda e, given its exclusive approach, would be the Mini Cooper SE, offered from 34,000 euros.

Not as “chic” as the Honda, but much more practical in terms of interior space and range, you have a Hyundai Kona EV from 37,300 euros. And the electric versions of the new Opel Corsa-e and Peugeot e 208 are priced between 29,000 and 34,800 euros for the most powerful and best-equipped variants. Finally, for what the most powerful and best-equipped Honda e costs, you can also get an electric saloon such as the Hyundai IONIQ Electric, a Volkswagen e-Golf or a
