The technical specifications of the Honda Insight have now been revealed. The Insight is Honda‘s hybrid bet to compete with the Toyota Prius. Until now, Honda only had the Civic IMA, which failed to match the Prius in performance or technology.

The Honda Insight will use the same engine base as the Civic IMA, namely a 1.3-litre four-cylinder combustion engine that delivers 88 CV and 123 Nm of torque. Coupled to it is a 13.6 CV electric motor with 103 Nm of torque.

Both engines are paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The electric motor generates energy during braking, which is stored in the batteries, and together with the full range of technology the Insight is rated at a consumption of 4.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 101 g/km.

For Europe, two equipment variants of the Insight will be offered: Comfort and Elegance. Even the base version will include features such as electronic stability control as standard. It is a car that will seek the lowest price to compete with the Prius.
