The new Tourer body style of the Honda Civic will be accompanied on the brand’s stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show by an update to the five-door variant. Without amounting to a deep restyle, the compact is brought up to date both outside and inside to improve its build quality and keep a fresh look.

The exterior changes to the 2014 Civic focus mainly on the rear. The tail lights have been darkened, and there are new stripes painted in gloss black below the rear window (tinted like the rest of the windows), on the lower part of the tailgate and on the lower end of the rear bumper. The same shade has been used on the central part of the nose and on the wheel arches. Among the accessories, new 17″ aluminium alloy wheels are introduced in silver and black.

The changes to the cabin include black buttons on the steering wheel and centre console, and white stitching for the seats and the gear lever. Engineers at Honda have worked on the Civic’s front and rear suspension so that it offers a more comfortable and stable feel at high speeds.

The improvements to the compact conclude with an expanded range of safety systems inherited from the Civic Tourer. Lane departure warning, blind-spot detection, collision risk warning, automatic road sign recognition and city active braking to prevent rear-end collisions are among them. The launch of the new Civic will take place at the beginning of 2014.
