Honda wants to have its autonomous vehicles ready by 2025
The Japanese manufacturer wants to invest in developing a level 4 autonomous vehicle, which could reach the market in 2025

The two major technology races in the automotive world are driving the big brands to move quickly. The electrification of their ranges is advancing very rapidly, but the possibility of having a self-driving vehicle is also something to take into account. Thus, Honda has announced that it is working to achieve an autonomous vehicle capable of reaching level 4 autonomy within a relatively short time frame.
The deadline set by the Japanese brand is 2025, which places it slightly later than what other manufacturers such as Ford, BMW and Nissan, which are also working in that direction, have announced. To get an idea of what level 4 autonomous driving means, you can read the article in which we discussed these levels of autonomous driving a few days ago. In the case of Honda, they want their cars to be able to move around cities and highways in almost any circumstance.

The manufacturing plan for Honda’s autonomous cars will involve coordination across the R&D, purchasing and manufacturing departments, so that they can jointly advance in obtaining products that improve the introduction of electric traction systems and better safety elements leading to fully autonomous driving.
Although the date of 2025 represents the arrival of level 4 technology, Honda plans to have an autonomous vehicle by 2020, but that level will not be ready until five years later. The main obstacle at the moment to achieving that level 4 autonomous driving is the development of artificial intelligence capable of correctly managing all the information obtained by the battery of sensors that create the virtual maps they use to move by themselves.
In the video that could be seen on the YouTube channel of Honda, you can see how the system the brand is currently using works.
