Honda has announced today the date on which it will begin selling its Accord plug-in hybrid in the United States: 2014. Initially, that date will mean arrival only in the states of New York and California, while progressively, as the saloon establishes itself in the country, it will reach the rest of the states.

If you remember, on January 7 we told you that in June this same model would reach the Japanese market, although only for use and enjoyment by companies and municipal governments, always under lease. There, in Japan, it will cost around 26,180€. In the USA it will be similar, since it would be available for around $39,780, that is, 29,930€ at the exchange rate.

This model has a 2000cc i-VTEC four-cylinder engine that “shares the car” with a dual hybrid motor Sport Hybrid Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD). According to Honda, using only electric mode we can reach around 130 km/h, with a range of around 20 kilometres. Combined, it offers around 199 CV and 306 Nm of torque, while its consumption will be only 3.4 litres per hundred kilometres. A good figure compared with the Toyota Camry or the Crown: 4.2 and 4 respectively.

Thus, the Accord joins cars such as the Volt, the Prius and the C-Max in the US plug-in hybrid market, a country where it seems it will be the most suitable for this type of vehicle.
