How many electric cars are sold in Spain?

In an article I was reading in Auto Express, it noted how many electric cars have been sold in Great Britain and that the figures are rather disappointing compared with what was expected. This made me wonder how many electric cars are sold in Spain, and why there is no separate statistical table for them.

Spanish sales figures are token. They are almost anecdotal. They are… ridiculous? That is what one would expect from a car market as depressed as Spain’s, where the electric car has not yet made its way into the public’s preferences. But let’s look at it more explicitly: in August, the best-selling electric car was the Peugeot iOn with 5 units.

Besides the iOn, the electric offering is completed by the Citroën C-Zero (1 unit in August), the Think! City (2 units) and the Mitsubishi i-Miev (1 unit). The Nissan Leaf is available for pre-order, with 6 units pre-sold in August, which will begin to be delivered in the spring. As a curiosity (this is a different matter altogether), the Tesla Roadster has sold 1 unit in Spain… since January.

250,000 electric cars on the road in 2014? Difficult, though not impossible. The problem is that without a large campaign to clarify some grey areas of electric technology, the public will not feel tempted to buy them, even with subsidies on offer (another confusing topic in Spain, by the way).

Pues yo cada día me planteo más la compra de un eléctrico para los desplazamientos de ciudad y cercanías.Sinceramente es para lo único que sirven, como segundo vehículo para utilizarse en ciudad.
