How to Get Past a Speed Camera in Style

Answering the title of this post may seem relatively simple: by not exceeding the maximum speed limit on the road we’re driving on. But at what speed can a speed camera no longer capture the photo evidence?
To be honest, all of this stems from the news story about a certain Mercedes SLS AMG that was caught at 290 km/h after passing several speed cameras, the last one being the only one capable of taking the evidence photo. See Mercedes SLS AMG caught at 290 km/h or the “resolution of the fine” in The driver of the Swiss SLS AMG explains himself.
After learning about this incident, it’s no surprise that you’re curious, just as I am, and want to know the upper limit above which, supposedly, a speed camera can no longer catch you. As you may know, there are myths claiming that if you exceed 300 km/h the photo won’t be taken, but is that true?
Well, to find out, a few years ago an Austrian television programme conducted the test on a long straight closed to traffic, with the help of a police patrol and a handheld laser speed gun that is supposedly one of the best currently available.
With all this in mind, they decided to test several models, making a first pass with an Audi A5 3.0 TDI which they caught at 250 km/h, then it was the turn of a magnificent Chrysler 300C SRT8 at 265 km/h, later a Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabrio at almost 280 km/h, and finally a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder at more than 300 km/h.
In the video below you’ll find the answer to what would happen if you pointed a speed camera at more than 300 km/h. On the other hand, as I mentioned at the start, the best way to avoid getting caught is simply to stick to the limit set on the road, since time has passed since this test was carried out and the limits may have changed.
