Hyundai IONIQ 9 Electric Cars SUV
Hyundai is set to unveil the new IONIQ 9 in Los Angeles next November
Contrary to what was expected, this new electric SUV, a sibling of the Kia EV9, will not be named IONIQ 7 but IONIQ 9. The change is explained by the fact that it will become the new flagship of the South Korean brand.
The South Korean manufacturer already has almost everything ready to officially present its new large electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show in November. This model, based on the SEVEN concept the company showed at the same event in 2021, will be the first electric SUV with three rows of seats Hyundai, developed on the E-GMP platform.
The IONIQ 9 has already gone through a pre-production phase at the Hyundai plant in Asan, South Korea, and is currently in the final stages of quality control. Series production is expected to take place at the new Hyundai Meta Plant, located in Georgia (United States), whose construction is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year.

The IONIQ 9 will be the largest electric SUV from Hyundai, and also the most luxurious, standing out for its interior space and the cutting-edge technology it will feature. In this context, the number 9 will represent its status as the flagship, marking the pinnacle of Hyundai’s electric range. That is why everything points to the South Korean manufacturer reserving the number 7 for a vehicle in a lower category.
With its new Hyundai electric SUV, it will show how far it is capable of going
On the other hand, the new IONIQ 9 from Hyundai should set new standards in terms of performance, comfort and sustainability. Initially, the debut of the South Korean brand’s new flagship was scheduled for the Busan Auto Show last June, but Hyundai has finally decided to present it in Los Angeles. This decision could be motivated by the growing demand for large electric SUVs in the United States and the importance they have in this market.

The change in this model’s name decided by Hyundai leaves room for other models that may also be crucial to the company’s strategy to lead the electric vehicle market. Since the launch of the SEVEN prototype, the media referred to this model as the IONIQ 7, and Hyundai did not object to this during the final stages of development. It is only now, a few months before its official presentation, that we know the new flagship of the South Korean brand will finally be called IONIQ 9.
