Iberdrola will install 280 charging points for electric vehicles in Madrid
As part of the Movele Project of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, the energy company Iberdrola is set to build 280 charging points for electric vehicles in Madrid alone. The initiative will also seek to install 75 points in Seville and 191 in Barcelona.
As a way of setting an example, Iberdrola will have a majority of electric vehicles in its fleet of service vehicles. For this reason, it will have charging points for electric cars at its corporate buildings and workplaces.
Iberdrola is not only collaborating locally to provide greater infrastructure for the electric cars of the future. In Europe and the EE, together with Spain itself, it is taking part in several simultaneous projects to electrify public transport and improve the charging grid.
The Movele project envisages the arrival on Spanish streets of around 2,000 vehicles of various brands and types, which will be encouraged by a series of government subsidies. The first phase of the plan will be completed by the end of 2010.
