Icona has the Vulcano ready in time for the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

The Icona Vulcano brings together different skills and expertise of a very Italian tradition.
We began hearing about the Icona Vulcano in 2013, when it was unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show as a project that would take some time to become available. Now, two years later, it is ready to be presented at the 2015 edition of the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This is not merely a spectacular car like so many others, since its body is built exclusively from titanium and carbon fiber.

For inspiration, its designers looked to what is considered the fastest aircraft in the world, the Lockheed SR-71, the famous Blackbird. Its spectacular design, its shapes and its streamlined figure formed the basis on which the team at Icona worked to shape this vehicle and give it its recognisable look, one that will soon make it one of the most sought-after among the supercars on the market.

The titanium body of the Vulcano is a job that required 1,000 hours to complete. Its design incorporates shapes that dissipate engine heat and reduce the turbulence created by the wheels, dramatically improving air resistance and aerodynamics. To achieve the best possible result, the body was built by Cecomp, an Italian coachbuilder with extensive experience, and the powertrain was developed by Carlo Lombardi, former head of bodywork at Ferrari.

The Vulcano features a front-mounted engine calibrated and homologated for use both on the road and on the track, capable of delivering just over 1,000 CV and a maximum torque of 840 Nm, thanks to a supercharged V8 engine. This power reaches the wheels through a gearbox from Automac Modena. All this equipment allows it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and reach 250 km/h in 8.8 seconds. Its top speed is recorded at 360 km/h.
